On January 31, 1953, St. Mary's Schol was destroyed by fire.
Over 200 firefighters fought the blaze
It was believed to have started in a boiler room under an 1876 addition to an already ancient building.
Embers and sparks threatened buildings on Jackson St. and Maple Ave. and many homes were evacuated
