St.Mary's Church Spires

Can anyone please tell Me why the ornate spires on St.Mary's Church were replaced in 1956.As a Former Altarboy of St.Mary's Church,and now A Priest in Fl,I would like to know why. Thank You Fr.Gordon Chaisson.Tampa Fl.

The spires were damaged by the 1955 storms, and were replaced the following year. It's a shame, because the replacements are rather bland when compared to the original pair.
