Auctioned house

I stand corrected...the house that was auctioned off on Saturday, July 21st was the ELLIOT HOUSE. According to Tom Beardsley, it is one of the finest examples of a Queen Anne style Victorian Home in the state. Rumors are circulating that Eastern wants it eventually. That's why I was asking if anyone knew anything more. I hope the Victorian Home Association is on top of this one!!

Shemp: Who is "ESCU"? I have been away for an extended period. Is this a real estate conglomerate?

Has anything be done to the victorian that sits on the corner of Prospect and Windham streets--diagnonally across from old WHS. It was beautiful old home. Why doesn't ECSC buy it--it's adjacent to the college property???

I walk by it every day coming and going from work to home. Yesterday (July 31) the brush surrounding the house was cut down. The exterior needs a good sand blasting, but carefully. There are details to that place that are just beautiful. So many oval windows, and a friend from my college days lived in the turret room in the 70's - gorgeous. I hope ECSU does buy it from the town, because they'll preserve it.

I know the house well. A good friend of mine lived there back in mid-50's when we both went to high school across the street. The interior on the main floor had beautiful woodwork, a pocket door separating the living room; a stained-glass window at the foot of the stairway; and huge bathrooms with big old claw tubs. It has been such an eyesore for the neighborhood--hopefully someone will restore it.

It already looks better without all the junk surrounding it. The house just north on Windham Street, the Bodurtha house, was always lovely, but it's been bought by someone who is renting it out to a bunch of college guys. Trash on the lawn, overgrown bushes and weeds. And it really needs a paint job. Peeling avocado green paint is not pretty on such a classic house.
