I always liked the Italian Gardens on Main -- across from where the PO is now. They had a bar with a little tv where would would watch the boxing matches on Friday nites . A pal of mine and I got ssssssssmashed in there when we turned 21 one nite. In them days they did not have ladies at the bar either-- they were to sit in the booths. this was before the days of so-called 'equality' before the days of the nazi 'thought police.' -- you know no smking, no this or that, !!

well a guy named sam todaro ran the IGs as we called it. his son in law al shifroin was a nice guy who was the waiter and always gave you good service. they used to play dean martin on the juke box all the time --that big song of his 'that's amore" 9 the big pizza pie - that amore)

Willimantic had lots of other bars too -- liek Pete's Tavern down near the Nathan Hale and the Brass Rail on railroad st. where the wili is now.

How about the Rock Garden and all the taverns on Jackson St?
