Now that Mountain Dairy is the only local farm to deliver milk, what were some of the dairies in the Willimantic area and what did they deliver besides milk and cream?

We only used Mountain Dairy. Didn't they also deliver orange juice, cottage cheese and maybe eggs? Hey, it's been 40+ years.

The other dairies that I remember were Butlers, Cramers and Rosebrooks dairies. The Rosebrooks Dairy was on South St and I lived and worked at their farm while attending Windham High from 50 to 52. I believe that they were the only dairy in CT that was allowed to sell raw milk, and they sent some milk to Cramers too be pasteurized. The Rosebrooks were some of the nicest folks that I have ever met and treated me as a family member.

Hehee, Ernie! Rosebrrooks Farm must have been on South Street in Willimantic. My grandmother, Ruth Welles, operated Melody Farms Dairy here on South Street in Coventry from 1953 till her death in 1955. The estate sold her milk route to Butler Dairy. She had just taken delivery on a brand new milk van from Capitol Garage and some punk kids burned the utility barn the day of her funeral burning the truck and all the haying/forage equipment. It ought to be in the files of the "Chronicle" for the second week of Jan. 1955.

William, yes it was in Willimantic and on one of my trips back there I drove by the old farm and it was covered with 2 story homes. I guess that's progress.
