Wow! Do I wish we had him back in Willimantic! You could always find what you wanted there! It was a regular place-no airs and nothing fancy! Just good practical stuff that you could use! And open on Sundays after you pickedup the newspaper! Did my shoppin and got away from wife for a while! Those were good days!

My word, Sams surplus was the place. Fishing tackle and camping stuff is what I remeber the most as a youngster. Rare to find a place like that anymore.

I remember it when it first opened it just was the Surplus Center. It had a lot of WWII military stuff that was neat to look at. It seems that they use to pile stuff out front on the sidewalk also.

even in the 60s and 70's they had all sorts of military surplus there. Much of it we would buy and use for camping down along the shatucket river, (had a great place there, private property I am sure, but it ws a wonderful place)

We'd go there after getting egg bread and crumb cake at Mario's Bakery on Sunday mornings.
