BY YOU WILLIMANTICITES/WINDHAMITES:

HOW OLD IS AN OLD-TIMER? I REMEMBER FROM THE LATE 40'S, BUT I'VE ONLY NOTICED ONE OF YOU OWNING UP TO GRADUATING GRAMMAR SCHOOL IN 1953 - ARE MOST OF YOU, MOST RESPECTFULLY, OF EARLIER VINTAGE? I LEFT TOWN IN 1976-WISH I HAD PHOTOS FROM BEFORE REDEVELOPMENT - WHEN YOU COULD SPEND THE DAY ON MAIN STREET - SELDOM GET BACK!

Graduated Windham Street School 1950. I think the 8th grade teacher was Mrs Elwell. She had the entire shelves below the windows filled with yellow National Geographic magazines. Mr Noble was the best principal that the city ever had. He never raised his voice and just his stature made you respect him.

Seems to me that Windham Street School became the F R Noble School in spring of 1957 the year I graduated-name change caused a ruckus as we had always known it as Windham Street! Dr Mertelle Larcomb was one of two eighth grade teachers that year! We sang On The Street Where You Live at ceremony and seems like we had someone from WTIC as speaker! Mr. Mattoon was principal then!Anybody?
